the study of Greek, Roman or other inscriptions, texts and historical documents.
To achieve this objective the Society
intends:
- to raise the profile of epigraphic research in the British Isles
- to establish better contacts between scholars with similar interests
in different parts of the British Isles
- to disseminate news of discoveries and activities - both national and
international - of interest to its members
- to increase public awareness of epigraphy and its contribution, particularly
in schools
- to establish regular meetings both within the British Isles and with
scholars from other countries
- to promote the study and teaching of Epigraphy, and in particular the
training of graduate students, both by direct action, and also by pressing
for proper resources to help spread information about collections of squeezes,
photographs etc. and encourage their use to encourage collaborative field-work
projects, particularly with a training element to encourage the development
of new forms of publication
