P.Oxy. I 87: Declaration by a shipowner, AD 342
This item is exhibited as the only original papyrus published in Vol.I of The Oxyrhynchus Papyri that remains in the collection. For more than two decades after publication of the first volume, most of the papyri published were distributed to major British institutions (The British Museum, the Bodleian Library and Cambridge University Library in particular) and to other institutions worldwide many of which may have given financial support to the excavations.
Ultimately, after the publication of scattered lists in the volumes, the whereabouts of all the published Oxyrhynchus papyri were listed in the Egypt Exploration Societys Location List (1974).
All papyri published since 1974 remain in the collection, housed for more than thirty years in the Papyrology Room in the Ashmolean Museum. The Location-List is available online via the POxy Oxyrhynchus site: a revised version will appear soon.
