RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP

Romano-British Writing Tablets

A Research Assistant is required to work on this British Academy Approved Project for a period of 12 months, beginning on 1 March, 1999 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary: in the range £15735-16655 p.a.

The person appointed should have completed a doctorate or other higher degree in Classics or Ancient History and should have some basic experience of computer technology as well as a good working knowledge of Roman Britain and its documentary sources. He or she will be based in Oxford at the Centre for the Study of Ancient Documents and will provide research assistance, under the direction of Dr. A.K.Bowman and Prof. J.D.Thomas, in three related areas of the project: 1. Preparation of the edition of the unpublished ink writing-tablets from Vindolanda; 2. Scanning and capture of digitised images of the ink-writing tablets; 3. Compilation of material for a projected Corpus of Romano-British Writing-Tablets.
